"Moominmamma nodded. She was dipping her snout in the water and looking at the bottom.

'THere's a nice gleam down there,' she said.

'It's your golden bracelet,' said Moomintroll. 'And the Snork Maiden's necklace. Good idea, isn't it?'

'Splendid,' said his mother. 'We'll always keep our bangles in brown pond water in the future. They're so much more beautiful that way.'
"

From Moominsummer Madness by Tove Jansson. It was on my bookshelf after all- tucked into a corner. The next page speculates about why Snufkin is late- perhaps he was eaten by a Groke?

The amazing thing is that the book is still in fairly good shape, despite the fact that it is clearly older than I am. Moomins always were so cute. One of my friends from study abroad was Norwegian and we were both excited to see Moomin merchandise.

(Perhaps I should get the Moomin panties after all- they are not childish as much as a nod to pop culture. There are Hattifatteners in a boat. I can send the one with Little My on it to Sam because who wants Little My on their underwear. Not me.)
