On one hand, iKnow is wonderful. On the other hand, during dictation, it phrased a sentence like this:

わたし の こく について すこし お はなしましょう。

Yes, with that spacing.

And if you're wondering why I'm currently in a state of high dudgeon, the guy clearly reads it as "kuni" not koku...although it appears to be something the programmers know about.

I'm still annoyed about the spacing, though. I use spacing to help me remember the structure of the dictation, and the way that they did it in this example makes no fucking sense. On the other hand, the entire point of this exercise is in attempt to help me work on my kanji, so I'm not sure why I'm bothering with the dictation at all.....also, I really ought to look up the kanji it's giving me, because the person in the comments talking about the kanji it's using for the recent lesson is absolutely correct- the kanji in the lesson are wrong. The bad thing about it is that 1) I didn't notice it myself and 2) by this point, I should have. Although I did note that spelling "mada" with kanji is....just kind of weird. X_________X

It seems like the program should be taken with a grain of salt, but the brain speed game is ungodly fun. ♥

edit: wtf, since when is face "gao" when it's not in a fucking compound?

edit x2: The kanji focus version hurts approximately 1000x less, also DID I MENTION THAT THE ORAL/AUDIO PORTION IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY STRONG POINT. Seriously, we used to have really killer, if you don't get it EXACTLY how she wants you to phrase it it's marked off audio sections during high school.

edit x3: I don't know, isn't having 帰る and 変える in the same lesson and then going "HERE, LET US GIVE YOU THE HIRAGANA, CLICK ON THE RIGHT KANJI" just a little unkind? I'm just saying.

All of those things are bugs introduced in the last maintenance. They're working on them.

It's extremely recent?

That's good to hear, as the fact that it caused me to get that kanji in particular wrong was a bit of an insult to injury.

Yup, started on the 20th. I joined on the 18th and can vouch for the fact there were zero bugs before the maintenance. The staff said they moved some data, and some stuff got accidentally messed up.

They've also said that this weekend is an extended holiday in Japan, so it's likely this can only get fully looked at after Tuesday, when everyone is back in the office. They've been extremely receptive of the reports and communicative, great service for a free website.
