Sep. 23rd, 2005 12:05 pmI woke up at noon to the sound of knocking on my door. A few of the other girls want to go sightseeing, so we're all going, I think. It should be fun, though I'm not sure how we're going to work out the logistics. PRobably need to buy 1 day bus passes, but they're cheap.
Yesterday, we had the fun, fun experience of trying to set up a bank account when you don't really understand the language that the banking will be done in. There were about 8 of us coming in at the same time, so it made the bank kind of busy. When we got to the bank, some of the girls decided to go to a convienience store to get a drink while we wait for our "buddy" to come explain to the bank what we wanted. I entered the bank to see everyone sitting in the corner. The bank worked on a "take a number and wait to be called basis," so I thought it wouldn't hurt to grab one. Then the guy at the counter called me over before I could go sit down, even though it was two numbers before mine could be called.
I kind of went 「わかりませんから、よろしくおねがいします。」 I think that that shall become my new catchphrase when dealing with government offices and like organizations. Don't think it will work for the phone company though, but they print their catalogs in English, which helps some. (Even in English, the catalog is rather confusing, but that is because I'm trying to buy a cell phone. How the heck do I know what plan I'd want?)
They also gave me a free towel! Yay!. :D
After the bank, we went back to school- slightly late but nobody cared. The orientation has a horrible habit of running late. The placement scores were returned. I got into lower upper intermeidate for comprehensive and upper regular intermediate for listening, which was better than I hoped for. (No, they don't really call the levels that, they just number them, but I like to be ornery sometimes. The alternative would be to give you a number and link to a little diagram that doesn't even mention how the levels are split into two groups.)
Have also decided what to do with room. Must find posters. X3
