Dec. 9th, 2007 07:51 pmIt was terribly cold today. Beautiful, but terribly cold.
Last night was raining- it could have been sleet or hail from the sound of it, but I was rather worried that the sidewalks would freeze over.
They hadn't, although it was rather icy, most of the ice was in the trees. It was a rather breathtaking effect.
I suppose that the best way to describe it would be "blooming cherry trees at night." Really, any tree with that sort of blossoms would work, but the resemblance was startling. Rain had fallen on the branches, forming many short icicles. Streetlights illuminated them, making them glow white, and the weight caused the branches to droop, like a flowering tree would. The effect was most effective on the trees that had already lost their leaves, but it was really quite stunning.
And then I realized that at some points, the branches were so laden that they blocked the sidewalk, dipping down to kiss the ground. It was decidedly less amusing, to say the least.
It was raining when I went, but I could see through the windows that the rain had ceased. Of course, as soon as I stepped outside to leave, it started raining again. Figures.
And classes are canceled tomorrow, but all I had was a counseling appointment that I needed.
