rhyme: (uninspired)
Managed to spend about $25 at a hyaku en shop.

Saw part of a tv show where guys were given difficult and somewhat risque questions and girls had to vote for the answe they thought the most dispicable.

Ate dinner on the steps of a train station- an impromptu sandwich consisting of 1/2 off because it was almost closing time tonkatsu and bread I had bought for the occaision.

Learned a much easier way to get to the university.

Discovered a somewhat easier but still uncomfortable way to use the traditional toilets. Decided that as far as public toilets were concerned, they were preferable to Western ones.

Thank goodness for skirts.

Learned that I wasn't the most out of shape on the bicycle.

Ran into someone in the baths, who wasn't just leaving.

Found that talking to someone in the bathroom is really uncomfortable. The water is very noisy, hearing is difficult.

The croissants I bought were good.

Probably failed my placement test-thought it was the wrong experiment.

Accidentally ate takoyaki at lunch- thought it was a croquette.

Decided on room decorating scheme, to be started tomorrow.

Am overwhelmed by paperwork- not too much of it, but it's kind of worrisome.

Yesterday, I spent a lot of time introducing myself to people. For some reason, a very safe conversation topic is "Where are you from?" (The response is generally something along the lines of "Oh, how nice" and the conversations segues into anecdotes about how lost one had gotten the other day.)

The guy sitting two seats behind me: I'm from New Jersey. It's part of the United States.

Me: I'm from Honolulu. It is also in the United States.

In retrospect, it wasn't as funny as I thought it was then. (Of course, at the time none of us were laughing.)
rhyme: (put down the duckie)
Today was somewhat uncomfortable (had to sit seiza for most of dinner,) and partly boring (had to sit through really boring things that you could get, should you need it, simply by reading the manual.)

It was a little embarassing - I asked for directions to school. The response was "Ah over there," "over there" being about 30 meters away. I ended up being late and we were doing interviews today. (Incidentally, my interview seemed to revolve around the fact that I liked anime! And also Oklahoma is scary becauses strangers try to talk to you at night! I didn't know how to say that they were evangalizing. Other people got asked about current events or why they chose their majors. I get asked about what series I liked and what kind of Japanese things I liked. I blanked and said cute lunch boxes. It was only afterwards that I remembered my fondness for somewhat trashy but rather old literature.)

I managed to find the dictionary I wanted at the university bookstore of all places. Could have gotten it for about 300 yen cheaper tomorrow, because I"m going to join the coop, but I spent hours and much more than that on bus fare trying to find the thing, so I think I'm going to play the safe route. Who knows how many copies the store has. (And it still worked out cheaper than at the UH bookstore. ♥)

I managed to track the way were were shown to get to school through a maze of backstreets by myself and I remembered the way to the ward office.

I got through dinner fine, even though the table was so terribly cramped that I barely had room to sit. It was super cheap okonomiyaki and yakisoba - I'll have to remember the place, it was really great.

All in all, a pretty good day.

ETA: Also, saw my first underwear vending machine. Didn't have time to get a good look at it, but it could be useful in the future. It was quite near campus.
