So in History, we're discussing "The Soil." A semi-biographical novel about farmers at the turn of the century.

At one point, I was fairly convinced that the main characters wife, who dies early in the book, had been prostituting herself. But, in discussion, it turns out that she was really performing abortions.


Also of note: It's fun to show younger brothers Jizo statues and go "Do you know what those pinwheels are for? Dead babies!" :D
