Today was chilly, but mostly uneventful.

Due to peculiar circumstances, my last class yesterday was moved to the somewhat imaginary "Sixth period" today. That would be the one that starts at 6 PM, not a part of your normal school day. If you consider the fact that it gets dark at 4ish now, it's quite late.

In light of that, attendance was optional. I decided to go anyway. ^^;;

After class, the teacher invited us all out to go drinking. About 10 of us accepted. (I don't really like alcohol, but the teacher in question is very amusing to speak with.) I hadn't been planning to stay very long, but we ended up having enough random munchies to equate dinner and staying until 11. The "cocktails" I had ordered had very low alcohol content, or at least, I couldn't taste it very much, so I rather liked them. The oysters and some fish called "mambo" were also very good fried- they didn't taste fishy at all, so I was able to eat them. The oroshi daikon with beef was a bit tough, but the sauce was very tasty. I didn't bother to try the sashimi platter, but everyone else seemd to like it. The fried rice was rather lackluster, but the yakisoba was excellent- I kept fishing out the random leftover vegetables long after the noodles were gone. X3

While we were there, another professor came in with a class. It turns out that this is a fairly common thing at Japanese universities (or at least, this Japanese university.) There's even an expense account for professors to take students out like this. We ordered a lot of food, so everyone pitched in 1,000 yen apiece, which came out to about the same as the price of my two drinks. (Lychee soda = good, Apple soda= good, but not as good as the lychee.)

In retrospect, I felt really lucky, as I wasn't really carrying a lot of cash on me. It turned out to be just the right amount; a bank run would have been incredibly embarassing.

I think we're going drinking again next week. I've heard that such occaisions are normally spaced more distantly apart, but 1/3 of the class didn't bother to show up. It was quite cold by the time class started.

Actually, when you consider the length of the table, it's incredible that we managed to maintain a single conversation for the whole group. (Not the whole time, but enough of it.)
