So I get home just in time to miss the end of Obama's acceptance speech. It's one of the disadvantages of time zones, I suppose. There's something kind of special about watching numbers as they come in. (I already knew how the election was running via glimpses during work, but today was busy, busy, busy.)

Our voter turnout was rather lackluster- the second lowest since statehood, but Mom says that a lot of people voted late in the day, so that might be a factor. We'll see how that turns out, but 60% really is quite pathetic. I was expecting better, especially since people seemed so excited about the presidency. There were a lot of little old (and generally Caucasian) ladies wearing Obama tshirts and pins.

We also had some interesting ballot amendments. Can 25 year olds run for governor? (I voted "Yes" out of sheer spite.) Should we have a constitutional convention? (Isn't that what these amendments are for?)

More importantly, it looks like the amendment to approve rail transit as a part of our mass transit was passed.

Yes, yes, yes! 8D

Opponents of the monorail have been saying that the project would be expensive and wouldn't particularly benefit them.

And they're right. The rail transit project really isn't for them. They probably won't be around long enough, to use it. They might live in town. It won't benefit their generation, but it should be built to benefit mine. There's only so many places that you can expand to.

The fact that their campaign was grassroots versus a media campaign run by rail supporters (like the construction union, of course) is irrelevant. I happen to like things that improve our infrastructure, and I don't think more highways are the way to go. (I do think that switching to concrete roads would be an interesting idea. Concrete roads are nice.)
